It is hard to tell which is the best ab exercise given the the variety of the workout suggestions, not to mention that efficiency results from complex circumstances. Besides the individual factors influence efficiency, there are also many incorrect training leads, performance mistakes and false myths that are to blame for the failure of an ab exercise. A good ab exercise is one in which the action doesn’t do any harm to the lower back or any other part of the body for that matter.  A lot of cases where many gyms are fulled with people who do not do these exercises right and sometimes in a way that could harm their spines or backs.  The vital component of good ab exercises is to understand the mechanics of the body as well as undertaking each exercise in a way in which the process does not hurt or damage the back.  

The American Council of Exercise did a study on the best ab working techniques and they found that the best one by far is the bicycle exercise as it best works your stomach (or your future six pack) and your obliques in a healthy and orderly fashion.  

The next good ab exercise involves use of the captain’s chair.  Like all other ab exercise, it works your abs as well as your obliques.  And most significantly with this exercise is to be caution that you don’t arch your back or follow through by swinging your legs, as this could harm to your lower back – one of the most sensitive parts of the body.

Number four on the list is a vertical leg crunch.  Again working the Rectus abdominis and obliques, you start by lying on the ground with your back touching the surface, with your legs running straight up from the ground.  Then you lower your legs down towards your chest and repeat as necessary.

Next on the list is the Torso track, this can be a quite dangerous movement as it can hurt your lower and upper back if done wrongly,  so its best that you do it cautiously or under the supervision of an instructor first.  

Next on the list is a long arm crunch.  It works your upper abdominals and is important because most ab exercises in reality don’t work them as much as they should.  Other ab exercises on the list includes plank on elbows, reverse crunch, full vertical crunch and the ab rocker.  

The study conducted and done by the American Council of Exercise on purpose to eliminate many incorrect perceptions in existence prior.  A lot of various people subscribed to a large amount of different ab working theories.  And many preached a whole host of ‘good ab exercises’ that weren’t actually the case.

Effective Ab Workouts

Granted, ab workouts might not be what most people choose to do with their precious free time, but they are one of the best ways of getting fit and staying healthy. And whether or not exercise is your thing, there’s no shortage of ab exercise machines in the sport shops so you can still get your ab workouts that way.

Whichever ab workout you decide on, it’s still going to be one of the best ways of getting well defined abs just ike you see on the cover of fitness magazines. But before you go ahead a word of warning is necessary. If you’re not used to ab workouts you might want to do a few things before you start, such as getting a medical exam.

Don’t miss out this bit because you need to know if your body can cope with an ab workout, which do tend to be strenuous. And even if you are healthy individual that can cope with hard exercise, you might want to consider starting easy and working up to more strenuous routines as you adjust to the ab workouts.

Also, don’t forget that ab workouts aren’t really an exercise you need to be doing seven days a week. Just three days a week is fine, every other day so that you are giving your body time to recuperate.
